Tied to a Star (Sub Pop)

Unlike his Dinosaur Jr. band-mate Lou Barlow J Mascis has seldom found the need to unleash his acoustic side, which is a bit sad as even a cursory pick through the D Jr. catalogue of fuzzed up sludge rock reveals more than a passing nod to melody. This glaring omission is however now addressed as Tied To A Star is more or less wall to wall acoustic guitars and Neil Young style Quavery high pitched vocals and it’s a very lovely thing indeed. If you prefer your J slathered in fuzz then this probably isn’t going to be for you but the rest of you are in for a treat.
